Some classic television scenes become unforgettable because they take one simple misunderstanding and refuse to let the victim escape. The joke begins innocently enough. Carol, who has been active in the PTA while raising her younger sister Chris, has convinced Roger to participate in a charity performance. There is only one problem: Roger’s costume is not exactly something he wants the rest of the city—or especially his coworkers—to see.

Roger is still in his office when his boss unexpectedly appears with a new colleague, Hank Fielding.
The timing could not possibly be worse.
The boss has apparently been describing Roger as a dependable employee with only a few harmless “eccentricities.”
Then they see him.
Roger immediately tries to explain.
Tonight is PTA night, he says. There is an amateur performance. His wife and her sister are involved. Everyone is wearing costumes.
His boss, however, refuses to interfere in an employee’s private life.
That polite acceptance is much more embarrassing than outright criticism.
Roger knows exactly what they are thinking, and every attempt to correct the misunderstanding only seems to confirm it.
Even Getting a Report Becomes Awkward
Roger’s boss then asks him for a report.
Normally, handing someone office paperwork would be completely routine.
