Tim Conway’s famous Elephant Story belongs firmly in the second category.
The moment came from one of the beloved “Family” sketches on The Carol Burnett Show. The characters were gathered together playing Password, but what should have been a relatively straightforward scene became one of the most remembered examples of performers breaking character in television comedy.
And Tim Conway was responsible.
Conway had an extraordinary ability to understand exactly what would make his fellow performers laugh.
